Cornhuskers kickoff the first football season under Matt Rhule this Thursday

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — After an especially busy offseason full of sweeping changes, the Cornhuskers are finally taking the football field this Thursday.

It’s been six long years since fans have been able to enjoy a winning season.

Now Matt Rhule is trying to right the ship after Scott Frost and Mickey Joseph left under controversial circumstances last year.

The new head coach will be relying on Nebraska’s new quarterback Jeff Sims.

Rhule has praised his athleticism and ability to ad-lib plays when everything breaks down.

Experts believe we may see a lot of that as the O-line has been scrutinized since last season.

The Huskers are also playing just days after one of their teammates, Arik Gilbert, was arrested during a vape shop break-in.

Thursday’s game is set to air on Fox beginning at 7 p.m.

Nebraska’s taking on the Minnesota Golden Gophers, who they lost to by a touchdown last season.

The Huskers don’t play at home until September 16, when they welcome Northern Illinois to Memorial Stadium.
