Cost of Lincoln industrial fire is now at least $1 million and growing

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The cost of Monday’s industrial fire in Lincoln continues to grow as damage is calculated.

The blaze broke out around 11 a.m. near South Sixth and Calvert streets.

An asphalt roller compacter malfunctioned, causing the fire, according to Lincoln Fire & Rescue.

Thick, black smoke could be seen from across the city.

LFR said that a garage bay was fully involved when crews arrived and that two other garages were damaged before the flames were fully contained.

The building sustained $500,000 in damage.

Officials originally believed there was $200,000 in damaged contents, but that’s grown to at least $500,000 as well.

No one was injured despite the destruction.
