UPDATE: Council okays building proposal for Q Street

UPDATE:
On Monday, the Lincoln City Council approved a resolution adding a project to the Lincoln Center Redevelopment Plan.
This project would put a 20–story multi–purpose building in place of where an Applebee’s restaurant used to be near 11th and Q streets.
“It is multi–use, it is residential and it adds to the vitality of a 24/7 downtown,” Urban Development Director David Landis said.
Landis said it’s a $30 million project, with $25 million coming from private investment and the rest from TIF funding.
He said the building would house a restaurant, office space and several floors for apartments.
He said the project also meets the university’s wishes to “tie” UNL to downtown.
“The university has wanted to have places where people can live and visit close to the university,” Landis said. “This does that.”
Council members agreed the project goes along with the Lincoln Center Redevelopment Plan.
“As discussed, this meets the comp plan in so many ways,” Councilwoman Leirion Gaylor Baird said. “Whether it’s density, the mixed–used, the active first floor, the streetscape enhancements.”
The council’s 7-0 vote is just one of several steps this project must go through in the city approval process. Landis said the next step is over the terms and details of the agreement with the developer, which is in two weeks.
