Lincoln City Councilman Jon Camp confirmed Wednesday he is considering running for mayor in the 2019 election.

Camp has served on the council for 20 years.

He said recently he’s been approached by many people saying he should run, because Lincoln is ready for a change.

The government needs to be more transparent, more balanced and focused on economic growth,” Camp said.

"I have a three pronged philosophy,” Camp said. “First, common sense, follow that, fiscal responsibility, we have overspent on too many projects we don’t need, and finally, do the right thing, not the emotional thing, not the political thing.”

Camp is a Lincoln native, former business owner, and one of the three founders of Lincoln’s newly revived Haymarket District.

Camp didn’t comment on when he will make a final decision to run.
