LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lancaster County Board gave the green light on Tuesday to the downtown Lincoln convention center.

The board approved the selection of the Garfield site at 13th and M streets for the facility.

The convention center will be built on the block south of the Lincoln Marriott Cornhusker Hotel.

The county board also agreed to submit an application to the state for the use of a tax turnback to finance the project.

Under that system, a certain percentage of state sales tax revenue collected by nearby businesses is set aside to help pay for a development.

The board said the convention center would generate an estimated $18.5 million in annual economic output.
