Couple arrested after one twin girl dies, other hospitalized

Officials have arrested a Nebraska couple following an investigation after one of their twin girls died and the other was hospitalized.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office said Kassandra Krutina, 20, and David Krutina, 23, of Louisville, were arrested for felony child abuse.
CCSO said the Krutinas are the parents of daughters who were born prematurely.
Neither girl gained much weight after being discharged from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the agency said.
On September 1, 2018, one of the girls became unresponsive and was taken to Children’s Hospital in Omaha where she later died.
The other girl, who survived, was also taken to the hospital, and doctors found both to be severely malnourished.
CCSO said that girl was taken into custody by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services and is doing well.
In Nebraska, child abuse resulting in death is a class llA felony; and child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury is a class lllA felony.
