Couple more cold starts this weekend

We still certainly have the potential to see freezing temperatures at this time of the year, but Friday morning those temperatures are expected in northeast Nebraska where there’s been less cloud cover overnight.

Temperatures could be as low at 30° in areas under a Freeze Warning through 8 a.m. Friday.

But southeast Nebraska will be milder due to more clouds – temperatures expected to be just above freezing with a Frost Advisory in place.

Friday Frost Freeze

This isn’t our only cold morning going forward. We’re expecting temperatures to creep closer to freezing on Saturday, with most below freezing to start Sunday. The National Weather Service anticipates more frost/freeze headlines throughout the weekend for this.

Morning Lows

Lincoln’s last spring freeze on average is about April 25th – southeast Nebraska usually sees this happen within the last two weeks of April. We’re fitting right into that average this weekend.

Last Spring Freeze

After 8 a.m. as those headlines expire, we’ll warm with the influence of the sun despite also clouding up again. Light winds are expected throughout the day.

This Morning

Friday will end up being mostly cloudy, but the coldest day will be Saturday. After, highs start warming the second part of the weekend.

The only moisture any of us see in the near future will be limited and out in southwest Nebraska, with a passing system diving to our south out of the Rockies.

Snow amounts are generally expected to remain under an inch for most south and west of North Platte. Locally higher amounts more likely closer to the Colorado border.

Then we’ll be turning toward a more active week next week with several storm chances.
