Court docs: Lancaster County inmate gets caught with meth, tries to flush it down toilet

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lancaster County Jail inmate was caught with drugs in his pants over the weekend, court documents say.
On Sunday morning, a corrections officer smelled marijuana in 40-year-old Ivory Gray’s cell, according to an arrest affidavit.
He patted him down and felt a plastic “crunch” in his left pant leg, the affidavit says.
The officer found a white tube sock rolled into the pant leg, and police said he saw two plastic bundles inside.
He put the sock on a desk in the commons area of that pod and waited for backup to strip search Gray.
But Gray made a sudden dash for the sock, according to court documents, picking it up and running into a bathroom stall.
The affidavit says he tried to flush the sock down the toilet, but the guards were able to stop him.
Investigators found that the two plastic bindles in the sock contained a total of about 1.4 ounces of methamphetamine, according to the affidavit.
Police said there was also 4.7 grams of marijuana in the sock.
On Monday, Gray was charged with possession of methamphetamine and evidence tampering. A judge set his bond at $250,000.
He is already serving a sentence for theft and also awaiting trial on drug charges.
