Cow leads Grand Island Police on low-speed chase

(KHGI) Grand Island police were led on an unusual chase on Monday after a cow escaped from the JBS beef plant.

A viewer captured part of the low-speed chase on video, showing two patrol vehicles trailing the cow down the street at around 1:15 p.m, and sent it to our partner station KHGI.

The witness said the cow trotted past Island Auto on South Locust and was later spotted on someone’s lawn on Stolley Park Road.

Police said the cow then went into a detention area where it was put down.

They said JBS could not take the cow back to the facility to become meat, so a rendering plant was called to pick up the cow.
