Cranking up the heat on Wednesday

Scattered showers and storms rolled through eastern Nebraska early Wednesday. While we may have a few straggling showers for the first part of the morning, skies will quickly turn mostly sunny for the rest of the day.

Then, Mother Nature cranks up the heat. We expect middle to upper-90s for highs around Lincoln, and especially our southern communities. It will still be hot, but several degrees cooler for areas farther north and west.

Wednesday Forecast

We expect dew points to rise into the upper-60s and low-70s by afternoon, so the humidity will not be welcoming either. When you factor in the humidity, it will feel several degrees warmer. Heat indices, or feels-like temperatures, will be in the 100°+ territory by peak heating. Even by 9 p.m., it could still feel like the middle-90s.

Stormcast Heat Index - Wednesday

We will be watching more storm development on Wednesday evening in the Panhandle, but that’s where the storm activity will remain during the evening hours. That said, we’ll likely see overnight storm development in central Nebraska. Some of these storms could extend into southeast Nebraska by Thursday morning.

Stormcast Thursday Morning

We’re looking at several waves of storms Thursday through Saturday. While it won’t be raining at every point, there should be many rounds of storms. This will also help provide a little bit of relief from the heat. By Sunday, the overall weather pattern will turn drier.
