Crash on O Street sends one vehicle up in flames

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A vehicle went up in flames after a Saturday night crash on O Street.
It happened around 9:10 p.m. at 70th and O streets.
The Lincoln Police Department said an officer noticed a Dodge Charger driving recklessly near 84th and O streets just after 9 p.m.
The officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but LPD said the driver wouldn’t stop.
According to police, the officer didn’t start a pursuit because of safety concerns.
A few minutes later, the Charger collided with an SUV at 70th and O streets, causing the SUV to catch on fire.
City traffic cameras showed the SUV engulfed in heavy flames and smoke.
Police said the driver of the Charger was taken to the ambulance with life-threatening injuries, but overnight, his injuries improved and they are no longer life-threatening.
Two occupants in the SUV were taken to the hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
Authorities closed off the intersection of 70th and O streets overnight as the road was cleared.
It is now reopened to traffic.
