Stove fire destroys Lincoln home’s kitchen

UPDATE, 10:40 a.m. — Authorities have now confirmed that no one was injured during Tuesday morning’s fire.

Lincoln Fire & Rescue also said a grease pan that was sitting on the stove is to blame.  It was originally believed that an air conditioning unit on the outside of the home led to the blaze.

Right now, there is no estimate on how much repairs will cost.  Units were able to clear the scene around 9:20 a.m.


UPDATE, 8:55 a.m. — LFR says breakfast was cooking on a stove that caught fire, leading to Tuesday morning’s blaze in Lincoln.

Officials tell Channel 8 that the fire began spreading through the home’s vents, and crews are still detecting heat behind the walls, so they’re tearing them open.

The home is considered habitable, but the kitchen is destroyed.  Volunteers with the Red Cross will be helping out.

Officials say you should always keep your stove clean and clear of combustibles, including dirty napkins and paper towels.


LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Crews battled a house fire right down the street from Lincoln High School on Tuesday morning.

It was first called in at 8 a.m. near South 21st and J streets.  More than a dozen units responded to the scene.

There are no reports of any injuries at this point.  Officials say a stove started the blaze.
