Crews battle large grass fire at homeless camp in north Lincoln
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Several fire departments fought a grass fire Sunday at a homeless camp near 27th and Superior streets.
Lincoln Fire & Rescue was called to the area around 1:35 p.m.
MJ Lierman, a spokeswoman for LFR, said the rough terrain made it difficult for crews to get positioned.
Wind gusts up to 30 miles an hour carried the flames quickly, according to Lierman.
She said crews got the blaze controlled and contained to a grassy area just north of Salt Creek.
No one was injured.
Lierman said the fire burned about two to three acres.
A Channel 8 reporter at the scene said there were shopping carts, tents and books near the burned ground.
Around 3 a.m. Monday, LFR responded to a flare-up in the area.
