RV fire spreads to central Lincoln homes, causing $80,000 in damage

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Fire & Rescue battled a house fire Friday afternoon that started in an RV.

Just after 12:45 p.m., several crews were sent to a home at 29th and U streets for a fire.

A spokeswoman for LFR said a space heater inside the RV ignited and quickly engulfed the vehicle.

The fire spread to the outside of the houses on either side, according to LFR.

“We immediately started to search the houses and stretching hoses to get water on the fire,” Battalion Chief Jeremy Gegg said. “Ultimately it took 35 or 40 minutes or so to get the fire completely under control.”

LFR said the RV is a total loss. One house has foam and water damage, while the second house will need some repairs. Both houses are still livable, according to LFR.

The fire was deemed under control at 1:30 p.m., according to LFR.

LFR said the total estimated damage is $80,000.

There were no injuries.

The homeowner’s son, Jonathan Delgadilo-Dominguez, talked about the moment he found out about the fire.

“I was hoping no one was home. Luckily enough, the dogs are fine,” he said. “Oddie was the only one I was really worried about because she got lost during all that. I was a little bit nervous because I was told that she was under the actual fire of the car. But she was fine, she’s a little tan, but she’s doing fine.”

Delgadilo-Dominguez said both his dogs are safe and with Animal Control.

Red Cross is helping both families relocate.
