Crowded Lancaster County Jail to house some inmates at another facility

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lancaster County Jail is full.

The Department of Corrections said that as of Friday morning, the jail had 696 inmates, including 133 females.

Its operational capacity is 665 overall and 107 for female inmates.

The department said in a press release that it will move some female inmates to the Washington County Jail.

“The Lancaster County Department of Corrections looks forward to working with local criminal justice system stakeholders to identify meaningful and consistent innovations at all points of the criminal justice system that will allow the Lancaster County Jail to safely return to regular protocols within operational capacity,” the department said.
