Customers scoop up Lincoln hardware store’s shovel stocks amid winter storm
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Despite many places closing their doors because of the snow, a Lincoln hardware store saw a boost in business.
A manager at Glenn’s True Value Hardware said business picked up on Sunday before the storm arrived.
“And as we got into Monday, as the day progressed, traffic became a little more aggressive,” Alan Metulka said.
It’s been three days of customers galore at the location on 70th and Van Dorn streets.
The store prepares for the influx of business by training each employee to work multiple jobs.
Metulka said ice melt and heaters were popular products.
But the hottest commodity was shovels, as customers almost bought out the store’s entire stock.
Metulka said wet and heavy snow calls for a quality shovel.
“When you’ve got a heavier, wet snow, it’s always nice to get a shovel that’s got a sturdy handle on it,” he said.
As a reminder, homeowners in Lincoln are required to have their sidewalks cleared by 9 a.m. after a winter storm concludes.
