Daily chances for rain and thunderstorms

This week is going to be more active than the last few days as there will be daily chances for rain the remainder of the work week.

An area of low pressure will begin to develop along the Nebraska/Kansas border through Tuesday afternoon.  There remains some question as to how widespread low level clouds will develop ahead of the low Tuesday but temperatures should be able to return to the upper 70°s and lower 80°s.

Humidity will be drawn up on gusty southerly, south-southeasterly winds.  Dew point temperatures are projected to climb in to the middle 50°s.  This will allow for an unstable air mass to develop over the state Tuesday.

We should have many dry hours Tuesday, mainly during the day.  However, a combination of heat, low-level moisture (dew points), and the surface low should allow for thunderstorms to develop Tuesday evening.

Computer models continue to suggest thunderstorms flaring up by early evening in central Nebraska.  They should move eastward through the evening, arriving in the Lincoln area between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Latest data from the Storm Prediction Center suggests there is a 3% to 7% probability of severe thunderstorms.  The main threat from thunderstorms that develop will be strong wind and hail.
