Dangerous cold Monday through Tuesday morning
Dangerously cold weather continues for Nebraskans Monday into Tuesday morning.
A Cold Weather Advisory (light blue) is in effect for most of eastern and southern Nebraska through noon Tuesday. Wind chills 20-30° below zero are possible, meaning frostbite can happen in as little as 30 minutes.
An Extreme Cold Warning (darker blue) is in effect for northern Nebraska through the Panhandle through noon Monday. Wind chills 30-40° below zero are possible, meaning frostbite in 10 minutes or less can happen in these areas.
Here are some of the signs to look for when experiencing frostbite versus hypothermia:
Temperatures struggle all day long on Monday… with high temperatures in the afternoon barely making it into the double digits as clouds increase.
Bone-chilling cold, the kind of cold that makes your face hurt, will still be the case throughout the day. Wind chills will be around 10-20 below all day long.
The worst of this cold snap will happen Monday night into Tuesday morning. Actual air temperatures will drop around 10 below.
Wind chills by Tuesday morning will easily be around 20-25 below zero for most of southeast Nebraska.
Those seeking warmer days will be happy to know that we should see relief from the cold especially by Wednesday.
Flurries will be possible by then, with temperatures closer to 40° on Wednesday and then again Friday into the weekend.
