LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Samsung Electronics on Friday announced 50 state winners in its 15th annual Samsung Solve for Tomorrow STEM competition.

Dawes Middle School in Lincoln was selected as the winner for Nebraska and was awarded a $12,000 technology prize package.

Students at Dawes Middle School focused on improved cane usage, designing a walking support system that gives the user more confidence.

“Solve for Tomorrow was born from Samsung’s deep belief in the power of STEM to improve lives and transform communities,” Allison Stransky, chief marketing officer, said in a press release. “It’s truly inspiring to see these bright Gen Z and Gen Alpha innovators harnessing emerging technologies, with nearly half of their STEM solutions incorporating AI, to address critical societal issues with creativity, determination, and purpose.”

A part of the $12,000 technology prize package, students received a Samsung Video kit, a Galaxy Book and a Galaxy Flip to help create a three-minute pitch video.

This video will outline how the student’s projects address the issue they are trying to solve. Judges will vote on these videos and pick 10 national semifinalists.

Those semifinalists will be invited to a live pitch event in April.
