Deadly northwest Lincoln trailer home fire deemed accidental, LFR says

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Investigators determined Thursday that a deadly northwest Lincoln trailer home fire earlier this week was accidental.

Rose Swanson, 66, was smoking in bed while using an oxygen tank, which sparked the fire, Lincoln Fire & Rescue spokeswoman MJ Lierman said.

LFR crews responded to the fire Tuesday around 8:30 a.m. at a trailer home near Northwest Sixth Street and Gaslight Lane.

Swanson was found dead inside the home, according to Lierman.

Firefighters rescued five cats while extinguishing the blaze. They were given oxygen.

A sixth cat was later found in a closet, and all were turned over to Lincoln Animal Control.

The home — valued at around $100,000 — is a total loss, according to Lierman.  Around $25,000 in contents were also destroyed.
