Death of man found in Salt Creek near Waverly is ‘highly suspicious,’ officials say
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man was found dead Saturday in Salt Creek near Waverly.
Chief Lancaster County Sheriff’s Deputy Ben Houchin said at a Sunday press conference that the death is “highly suspicious” because the body was found in “the middle of the water.”
Houchin said a landowner saw the body about 3:40 p.m., while four-wheeling on his property near 134th Street and Mill Road.
Authorities haven’t retrieved the body yet because they wanted to conduct the investigation in daylight.
Houchin said it’s “highly unlikely” that the man is Tyler Goodrich because of his “physical characteristics.”
He said the man was wearing blue jeans and a sweatshirt.
Authorities don’t know how long the body has been in the water or how it ended up at that spot.
But Houchin said the water level in that area is low, so it would have been difficult for the body to float far.
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office asks that the public avoid the area as deputies investigate.
