OMAHA, Neb. (KLKN) – State officials filed a lawsuit against Douglas County Health Director Lindsay Huse after she imposed a mask mandate earlier this month.

A judge heard the case yesterday and is expected to make a decision as early as noon today.  The lawsuit argues that Huse does not have the authority to impose a mask mandate without state approval.  Huse has argued that she consulted with city and county attorneys and acted under authority given to her by Omaha’s city council.

Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert and Gov. Pete Ricketts both oppose the mask mandate, but Stothert believes Huse had the legal rights to impose the mandate.

The mandate began Jan. 12 and will continue until Omaha hits certain numbers that indicate a significant decrease in cases.
