‘Definitely disheartening’: Parents disappointed after Seward pool closes due to leak

SEWARD, Neb. (KLKN) — The Seward Dowding Municipal Pool unexpectedly closed Friday, and it’s not clear when it will reopen.

Now, some parents are left wondering if their kids will be diving in at all this summer.

On its Facebook page, the pool said it was closed due to mechanical problems.

The post prompted a flood of comments and concerns from frustrated would-be pool-goers.

A local mom, Emily Klenke, said the pool is a gathering place for families.

“It’s definitely disheartening because the kids look forward to connecting with friends and family members.” She said.

But she said the community should not be too worked up because there are always other ways to keep the little ones busy.

Monday afternoon, the pool said it will stay closed Tuesday as crews fix a leak.

The city said it will announce on Facebook when it has a reopening date.

Channel 8 spoke with someone on the mechanical team who said the pool is more than 20 years old, so it’s bound to have some problems.

Since the pool is closed again on Tuesday, all swimming lessons will be held at the wellness center.
