Dennis Leblanc, a 40-year member of athletic department, is Nebraska’s interim AD

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska has named an interim athletic director.

University of Nebraska interim President Chris Kabourek announced Thursday that he has appointed Dennis Leblanc to temporarily lead the athletic department.

Leblanc is the executive associate athletic director for academics.

The news came one day after Trev Alberts announced that he was leaving Nebraska for Texas A&M.

Leblanc has been part of Husker sports since 1983, when he joined the track and field staff.

He has been in his current post since 2015.

“Dennis loves Nebraska, he cares deeply about the young women and men in our program, and he has a proven record of supporting their academic success,” Kabourek said in a press release. “Dennis and I are completely aligned on our vision for Nebraska to compete at the highest levels on the field, on the court and in the classroom. He will provide exactly the steady hand and trusted voice that we need during this interim period.”

Leblanc said he was honored to be chosen by Kabourek.

“He has an exciting vision for excellence at our University and I will do everything I can to help move that vision forward,” he said in a press release.

Kabourek said he has launched a national search for a permanent athletic director.
