LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska State Patrol on Sunday found a Denver homicide suspect in Dawson County, along with a dead passenger.

According to the state patrol, the suspect was armed and dangerous, but the passenger died from a medical emergency.

On Sunday morning, the state patrol was made aware that a person who was wanted in a Denver homicide was driving a Nissan Rogue on Interstate 80 near Gothenburg.

Just before 9:30 a.m., a trooper found the vehicle and started a chase. The suspect refused to stop and drove north into Gothenburg, the state patrol said.

The chase continued for 25 minutes on county roads in Dawson County before tire spikes brought the vehicle to a stop in a ditch on Highway 30, just east of Gothenburg.

According to the state patrol, the driver and the passenger refused to get out of the vehicle.

After numerous tries to get them out of the vehicle, troopers saw the female passenger having what appeared to be a medical emergency.

Troopers and deputies quickly approached the car and removed both the driver and passenger. Both were unresponsive, the state patrol said.

Authorities administered Narcan to both the driver and the passenger before they were transported, according to the state patrol.

The female passenger was transported to the Gothenburg Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The male driver, 36-year-old Augustine Vega, was flown to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney where he remains at this time.

Officers said they found one firearm inside the vehicle.

The South Central Area Law Enforcement Services task force will investigate the incident.

The state patrol said they are coordinating with the Denver Police Department on the ongoing homicide investigation.
