Deputies find 27 pounds of meth in vehicle’s gas tank in north Lincoln, authorities say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man was caught Wednesday hiding meth in his vehicle’s gas tank, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says.

Around 10 a.m., deputies stopped a vehicle for following too closely on Interstate 80 near the Lincoln Airport.

Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said the driver, 33-year-old Geovany Mercado, consented to a search.

Deputies found 27 pounds of meth hidden in the gas tank, according to Houchin.  The vehicle was heading to Omaha.

“The meth was wrapped up airtight and floating in the gas,” Houchin said.

Mercado was arrested on suspicion of possession of meth with intent to deliver.
