Deputies find $20K in suspected drug money during traffic stop

A New York man faces charges in Lancaster County after being found with thousands of dollars in suspected drug money.

An arrest affidavit from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says 41-year-old Todd Cossey, of Irondequoit, NY, was stopped Tuesday for traffic violations near mile marker 394 on Interstate 80.

Suspecting criminal activity due to Cossey’s “extremely nervous” behavior during the stop, a K9 unit was called in and detected an odor of drugs inside Cossey’s vehicle, according to the document.

A search of the vehicle turned up four vacuum-sealed bundles of money totaling $20,000 that pretested positive for THC, the affidavit says. Two empty duffel bags, which deputies said were consistent with transporting large amounts of drugs, were also found.

Cossey, who had previously been convicted on drug charges in Ohio, was arrested and charged Wednesday for possession of money related to narcotics sales.

A judge set Cossey’s bond at $50,000. He is scheduled to appear in court November 21.
