Deputies find one dead, one injured at northwest Lancaster County home

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a female was found dead Friday at a home.

Just before 2 p.m., deputies were sent on a welfare check to a home near Northwest 98th and West Adams streets.

Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said a family member had called out of concern for a resident in the house.

Deputies arrived at the home around 20 minutes later.

“As they were looking through the windows, they became concerned,” Houchin said.

Deputies forced their way into the home and found a male and a female.

The male was taken to a hospital with a life-threatening gunshot wound and the female was pronounced dead at the scene.

A gun was found at the home, according to Houchin.

He said the death is suspicious and an investigation is ongoing, but there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Neighbors hadn’t heard anything out of the ordinary, Houchin said, because a gun range is nearby.

“There’s a lot of gunfire out here all the time with hunting season and with the range down by Pawnee Lake,” he said. “Just hearing a gunshot in this location does not always make people concerned.”
