Deputies make arrest in southeast Nebraska church vandalism

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man has been arrested after a church in Syracuse was vandalized last weekend.

The Otoe County Sheriff’s Office says a 32-year-old Syracuse man was arrested on suspicion of criminal mischief and criminal trespass.

On the morning of April 1, deputies were called to the St. Paulinus Catholic Church in Syracuse on report of a vandalism.

A pastor found the church’s altar tipped over, and several other religious items had been destroyed, causing more than $4,500 in damage.

The sheriff’s office reviewed surveillance footage from around the neighborhood and was able to identify a suspect.

On Thursday, deputies arrested the man. The investigation is ongoing.
