LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Law enforcement in eastern Nebraska shot a man during a traffic stop on Monday.

Just after 2 p.m., deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office pulled over a vehicle at Highway 30 and First Street in Arlington. The village is 5 miles east of Fremont.

The sheriff’s office said a passenger, 48-year-old David Boettcher of Omaha, had a warrant for his arrest.

As he got out of the vehicle, he pulled a gun and shot at the deputies, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies fired back and hit Boettcher, who was flown to an Omaha hospital for surgery.  The Nebraska State Patrol said he has injuries that are believed to be non-life-threatening.

No deputies were injured, but the sheriff’s office said three patrol cars are out of commission after being struck by gunfire.

The female driver of the vehicle was arrested.  A 1-year-old child in the vehicle was not injured and has since been placed in protective care, according to the patrol.

Three deputies have been placed on paid administrative leave.

The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating the shooting.
