LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A deputy was sent to the hospital Wednesday after authorities say his cruiser was hit in eastern Nebraska.

Just before 2 a.m., the Butler County Sheriff’s Office said a patrol car was hit just south of the intersection of Highway 81 and Highway 92.

According to authorities, the cruiser was not moving when it was hit by a vehicle going south on Highway 81 going.

The vehicle struck the deputy’s cruiser on its side, the sheriff’s office said.

Both the deputy and the other driver were taken to the Columbus Community Hospital.

Authorities said the deputy had serious injuries and was later transferred to Lincoln.

In a Facebook post on Friday, the sheriff’s office said the deputy “will have a long road to recovery.”
