DHHS: Child left unsupervised in ‘freezing cold’ garage of east Lincoln child care center

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services suspended the license of a child care center in east Lincoln last week.
The Office of Children’s Services Licensing started an investigation of the Children’s Circle Montessori School near 84th and O streets on Dec. 11.
According to a report from a child care inspection specialist, a child was left unsupervised in the center’s “freezing cold” garage for being “too loud and screaming at nap time.”
The child was not wearing socks or shoes, the report states.
On Dec. 12, the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services issued an emergency order suspending the child care center’s license.
The Children’s Circle Montessori School serves children ages 2 to 6. It operates Monday through Friday and has a capacity of 35 children.
Channel 8 attempted to call the child care center for comment, but the line had since been disconnected.
Channel 8 also contacted the Nebraska DHHS for a statement regarding the suspension.
Director of Communications Jeff Powell said DHHS can confirm that an emergency order was issued, but cannot comment further until the investigation concludes.
