Discarded cigarette started fire that destroyed Lincoln trailer home

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A carelessly discarded cigarette sparked a Lincoln trailer fire Sunday afternoon, officials say.

Several Lincoln Fire & Rescue units were sent to the fire near Adams and Third streets around 4 p.m.

Fire Investigator Chuck Schweitzer said neighbors called to report the trailer home’s deck was on fire.

Battalion Chief Jim Bopp said the fire started on the deck and made its way inside the home.

Fire crews were able to extinguish the flames in the home quickly.

Bopp said the family was able to evacuate and there were no injuries.

Schweitzer said one of the family’s pet cats is unaccounted for.

The total damage is unknown, but Bopp said the house is uninhabitable.
