Saturday was a special day for a Doane College legend. Former football and track coach Al Papik was honored when the Tigers football field was dedicated in his name.

Papik coached at Crete High School and Doane, and brought the NAIA school to national prominence with a 38–game undefeated streak in the late 1960s.

“Tremendous day,” Papik said. “I'm humbled, I'm pleased, I'm proud to be associated with Doane College and their athletic program.”

“It's an honor to Coach Papik,” John Lothrop of Doane College said. “Someone who has really meant so much to Doane College and its student athletes, not just on the playing field but also in the classroom and building good character for their lives.”

Papik also served the college as both athletic and admissions director, along with being one of the school's most decorated coaches.

Papik was accompanied at the dedication by his son, daughter and other family members.
