CRETE, Neb. (KLKN) – Doane University hosted a back-to-school community picnic in Crete on Tuesday night.

Doane collaborated with the City of Crete, the Blue River Arts Council and the Crete Police Department to make the event possible.

The event included free food and drinks, music, a dunk tank, bouncy houses and more.

“It’s just a great way to kick off the school year, not only for Doane but also for Crete Public Schools,” said Nick Knopick, assistant director of leadership and services at Doane.

After the picnic, the arts council put on a showing of “Coco” at the Cassel Open Air Theatre.

Crete Public Schools kicks off the school year on Aug. 16.
