Dog killed in house fire east of Kearney

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A dog was killed Tuesday night in a house fire in rural Buffalo County, the sheriff’s office says.

Volunteer fire crews from Gibbon, Shelton and Kearney battled the fire at a home near Navaho and 39th roads, just east of Kearney.

Investigators think a lightning strike started the fire.  People inside the home made it out safely, but a dog died in the fire.

In a post on Facebook, the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office thanked the firefighters for their “swift and courageous efforts.”

“Your commitment to our community does not go unnoticed,” the agency said.
