Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library gets Lincoln affiliate

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln’s youngest children now have plenty of free reading material.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a book-gifting service that mails free books to kids ages 0 to 5.

A local nonprofit, Linked 2 Literacy, has become the Lincoln affiliate for Parton’s program.

The goal is to support literacy at a young age.

Only 36% of fourth-grade students in the United States are proficient in reading, according to the National Assessment of Educational Progress.

Linked 2 Literacy said two-thirds of children who are still illiterate by the fourth grade end up in prison or on welfare.

The program is free to sign up for, and if you’re looking to support this cause, it’s only $25 for one year’s worth of books for a child.
