Dozens of birds severely injured, killed by golf ball-sized hail in Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — More than 100 birds were severely injured or killed when a hailstorm bombarded Nebraska this month.

The Nebraska Wildlife Rehab said this happened when golf ball-size hail hit Harlan County Lake in Alma on Oct. 3.

People living in the area rushed to rescue as many as they could.  Fifty-four Franklin’s gulls and one ring-billed gull were saved.

Many others were already dead from head injuries or other trauma.

The wildlife rehab said its intensive care unit is now full of birds recovering from surgery on their broken wings.
