Dozens of kids receive Christmas gifts through LPD’s ‘Shop with a Cop’ event

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Officers with the Lincoln Police Department helped bring smiles to dozens of children, during their 8th annual ‘Shop with a Cop’ program.
From legos and games to clothes, there was no shortage of gifts Saturday morning at Target, near 40th and Yankee Hill.
Officers made sure every child has something special this Christmas.
“We reach out to these kids to make sure that everybody has a great Christmas. Everybody wakes up Christmas morning with gifts sometimes, but they get theirs a week earlier from us in blue,” Ofc. Jeff Urkevich, with Lincoln Police, said.
30 kids from McPhee, Elliott, and Everett Elementary Schools in Lincoln got the chance to shop with a cop.
The kids walked the aisles of Target, picking out anything their hearts desired.
“I had some students who didn’t even pick things for themselves, they were just worried about all of their siblings and parents, and even friends at school. It’s just so heartwarming,” Keli Wheeler, a School Community Coordinator said.
Lincoln Police partnered with Target and the Lincoln Public Schools Community Learning Centers to make this event happen. The gift cards were donated from the annual Santa Cop Auction last month.
