Dozens of Lincoln women building Habitat for Humanity home

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln-area women have begun building a home for a local family as part of Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln’s Women Build campaign.

This year, 100 women are joining forces to raise money and either help build a house or participate in a neighborhood cleanup.

All of the Women Build participants agreed to raise at least $500 each and participate on the job site one day in May or June.

Most do not have construction backgrounds but rather represent a wide range of industries, including insurance, banking, manufacturing, education and real estate.

The home will be dedicated to a couple with five kids. Habitat estimates the build should be done in about nine months.

It will be the 205th house that the local chapter has built or remodeled.

“I feel like Lincoln takes care of Lincoln,” participant Marie Silfer said. “And so, this is just another example of that. It feels good to be able to give back.”
