Drive-up flu shots available in Lincoln and they don’t contain antifreeze

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Flu cases rise as the temperature drops, and there’s concern a meme being shared on social media may leave people unprotected from the virus.

It claims there are aborted fetal cells and antifreeze in flu vaccines, among other concerning ingredients.

The Associated Press found the meme is lying about many of the ingredients listed. It reports there aren’t monkey kidney cells or fetal cow serum in flu vaccines either.

Some of the ingredients mentioned have been used in vaccine development, and others are present in minimal amounts that have proven to be safe for humans.

Alfred L’Altrelli, senior director of pharmacy at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center said, “Many of the names are complex and sound scary if you don’t understand them.”

Here in Lincoln, you can get vaccinated without even getting out of your car.  CHI Health is offering drive-up flu shots starting this Saturday.

Just head to its Yankee Hill clinic between 8 a.m. and noon.  CHI Health has several other opportunities if you can’t make it.

You can find the full list here.
