Driver accused of removing license plates & getting high after crashing in Merrick County

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Merrick County Sheriff’s Office says an Oklahoma man rolled his car multiple times on Highway 39 and then tried to hide evidence that would lead back to him.

We’re told Nassar Lopez-Torres hit a fence and slammed into a tree after driving off the road.

From there, authorities say the 21-year-old removed his license plates and other identifying documents.

Lopez-Torres is then accused of taking off along with someone he was traveling with, only to be found a mile and a half away.

When authorities caught up to them they say the two appeared to be smoking marijuana, adding to Lopez-Torres’ list of charges.

That includes driving without an operator’s license, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana one ounce or less.
