LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Scott Middle School student was hit by a car while riding their bike to school on Wednesday morning, according to Lincoln Public Schools.

In a letter to families, Principal Jesse Tvrdy said the student’s family was called immediately after the crash, and the child was taken to a doctor as a precaution.

The school is asking all families and community members to review their traffic patterns, slow down in school zones, and put distractions away while driving.

We know this may have been upsetting for some of our students to witness,” Tvrdy said in the letter. “Our staff will monitor students and check with them throughout the day to help them process what happened.

LPD said the driver was cited and released for negligent driving.
