Driver crashed into SUV after fleeing traffic stop in north Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man is accused of causing a crash on Monday night after fleeing from police in north Lincoln.

The Lincoln Police Department said it received a report that a 30-year-old was driving a minivan while under the influence and with a suspended license.

An officer tried to pull him over near 27th and Superior streets just after 9 p.m., police said.

But the minivan sped off to the south, LPD said, and the officer decided not to pursue out of concern for public safety.

Minutes later, the driver “allegedly violated” the red light at 27th and Y streets, hitting an SUV that was going east on Y Street, according to police.

The driver of the SUV, a 31-year-old man, was treated at the scene.

The minivan driver was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

His blood was drawn, and police said citations will be issued after they receive the toxicology results.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information should call LPD at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
