Driver dies after crash east of Lincoln, the sheriff’s office says
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office said one person has died after a crash east of Lincoln.
Just before 12:30 p.m. Monday, the sheriff’s office was sent to a two-vehicle crash near 162nd and O streets.
According to Chief Deputy Ben Houchin, a Ford Focus driving east on O Street collided head-on with a white SUV driving west.
The Ford stayed on the road with heavy front-end damage, while the SUV ended up in a nearby ditch, Houchin said.
In a video sent to our NOW Local News App by a Channel 8 reporter, you can see the damage to the front of the Ford.
According to the sheriff’s office, the driver of the Ford was taken to a hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.
The name of the driver is being withheld until next of kin is notified, officials said.
According to Houchin, seatbelts were in use and alcohol is not suspected to be a factor.
The sheriff’s office said O Street will be closed between 148th and 162nd streets until about 4 p.m. The sheriff’s office asks that people avoid the area.
