Driver killed in crash with semi west of York

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — One person died Wednesday morning in a crash with a semitrailer west of York.

The crash happened about 10 a.m. at the west junction of Highways 34 and 81, the York County Sheriff’s Office said.

Authorities said the driver of a car going east on Highway 34 did not stop at a stop sign.

A semi hit the car in the intersection, the sheriff’s office said.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi driver was not seriously injured.

The crash occurred just one day after a nearby collision claimed the life of a 71-year-old Grand Island man, the sheriff’s office said.

“It’s so horrible,” Lt. Alex Hildebrand said in press release. “We have had two fatality accidents within a ¼ mile of each other in less than 24 hours.”

Six people have been killed in York County crashes since late May.
