Driver of stolen truck evaded capture by running into cornfield, Nebraska authorities say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man involved in a truck theft escaped authorities Wednesday by running into a cornfield in Buffalo County, the sheriff’s office says.

Around 8:50 a.m., an officer saw a vehicle that had been reported stolen in Sarpy County near a hotel in Kearney.

Eventually, a Buffalo County deputy saw the vehicle on Highway 30.

But the driver pulled off onto Cessna Road and abandoned the vehicle, a 2014 GMC Sierra with South Dakota plates.

The sheriff’s office thinks the man ran off into a nearby cornfield.  Investigators think they know the driver’s identity, but it has yet to be confirmed.

Several agencies, including the Nebraska State Patrol, helped search for the man.  Police dogs and UAV drones were used in the search.

As of Wednesday night, the driver has not been found.

An investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office.
