Driver went 118 mph on northeast Nebraska highway to get Raising Cane’s, sheriff says
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A South Dakota man was caught Sunday afternoon during a speedy trip to a fast-food restaurant in northeast Nebraska.
Just after 1 p.m., a deputy with the Stanton County Sheriff’s Office pulled over a vehicle going 118 mph on Highway 57, just southeast of Norfolk.
The 19-year-old driver told the deputy that he was in a hurry to get home but needed to make a “pit stop” at Raising Cane’s, according to the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff Mike Unger is discouraging “everyone from driving foolishly and putting innocent people at unwarranted risk.
“High speeds in and of themselves are not considered reckless driving no matter how fast the speed, according to Nebraska law that has been set by the Nebraska state legislature,” Unger said in a press release.
The sheriff’s office did not say if the driver was ticketed.
