Drying out for a day before daily storm chances return

Some severe weather across eastern Nebraska Monday led to hail and wind reports.

The largest hail seen in the state was up in northeast Nebraska from Obert. Hail was observed to be 3-3.5″ in diameter!

Two-inch hail was reported by Winnetoon in Knox County up north, while several wind reports came from in and around Omaha Monday night.

As the bulk of our last thunderstorm complex departs this morning, plentiful rain added up across southeast Nebraska.

Clouds clearing to the east throughout Tuesday morning will lead to highs in the upper 80s. Humid and warm once again.

RISK FOR SEVERE WEATHER IN NEBRASKA – NEXT 3 DAYS

While the next couple of days have lower-end risks somewhere out west, Thursday will feature a risk for severe weather in eastern Nebraska.

A Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk covers part of the Panhandle and southwest Nebraska for Tuesday afternoon/evening. An isolated storm or two may pose a borderline severe threat with up to 60 mph winds and quarter-size hail today.

More of western Nebraska is under a Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk on Wednesday. Hail is the primary concern with storms Wednesday afternoon and night, moving east.

By Thursday (July 10, 2025), all severe weather hazards will be in play including hail, damaging wind and possible tornadoes. A Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk highlights almost the entire eastern half of the state.

Heavy rainfall could lead to some instances of flash flooding with storms on Thursday, too. Parts of eastern Nebraska are within a “Medium” risk for excessive rainfall.
