LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln traffic stop quickly got out of hand over the weekend, when authorities say an armed passenger made a run for it.

Police tell us this all started during a DUI investigation near 10th and O streets on Sunday, just before 4 a.m.

29-year-old Tyrell Gabriel is accused of bolting from the vehicle after it was pulled over for an infraction.

LPD says he then dropped a stolen handgun, picked it back up, and continued running.

Officers eventually found the gun, which was reported stolen out of Omaha, in some bushes near 9th and P Streets.  Gabriel was located as well and taken to jail.

He’s facing several charges including possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person and obstructing a police officer.
